What is Fairy Dust Extraordinaire?
Fairy Dust Extraordinaire is my exclusive line of resin specialty diamond painting drills with an added sparkle/shimmer effect. The sparkle is embedded into the resin as it is poured into the mold. Depending on the base color of the fairy dust drill, the effect you see varies from a truly shiny sparkle or a more subtle pearlized appearance--the overall effect of fairy dust is to add a near metallic look to sections or areas of a painting or its subjects. They’re packed to reduce and prevent as much static as possible and sized so you can actually cover real sections of a canvas.
Are Fairy Dust drills resin or acrylic?
Fairy Dust is resin, not acrylic. Resin has better facets, chips less, and feels nicer to place. I do have an acrylic “garage sale” stash for practice and kids’ projects, but Fairy Dust itself is the nicer stuff.
What shapes and sizes does Fairy Dust come in?
Fairy Dust will be available in:
- Squares – launching first
- Rounds – coming after the square launch
Jar sizes:
- Standard – ~750 drills per jar
- Large – ~1200 drills per jar for heavy‑use colors (e.g. 310, 3371, etc.)
Exact counts for each color are listed on the family pages and labels.
How is Fairy Dust packaged? Why not just baggies?
Because static + baggies = chaos.
Each Fairy Dust color is:
- Packed in a snug 4×6 cm zip bag
- Nested inside a clear plastuc container with a screw on cap, and labeled with the color number and quantity of drills.
- Carefully arranged in a drawer box with foam between layers for shipping if you are ordering several different colors or bundles, single color purchases are appropriately protected and shipped.
That keeps drills from clinging to everything, makes them easy to store, and looks a lot nicer than a pile of knotted bags.
How is Fairy Dust sold?
Like all diamonds used in diamond painting, they are typically sold by weight but translated into individual diamond counts to keep things simple (for both of us). I have organized a very long list into manageable base color groups, you'll see those below. Because you can't be expected to just by one small jar of one color, They are priced per jar, 2 separate sizes, and there are 80 colors to choose from. The magic number here is 4, you want to work with groups of 4, choose 3 colors and the 4th is free, so you place 4 in your cart, check it and it should show one of them free, then you can do 4 more colors, a total of 3 sets of 4 and you are maxed on the free ones. You can come back and order more, but this keeps the total packaging down to a shippable size for domestic or international customers.
the 4 do not have to be from the same base color group, you can mix and match, even sizes can be different, but you will need to pay for the largest size if the 4th is a small jar. There are a couple of bundles, and more planned that are pre-selected if you don't have a particular project in mind but would like to have them on hand and ready to add at a moment's notice. those bundles follow the same pricing math for the net after discount, pretty much a 25% discount from the single package price if you buy 1 or 2. A pre selected bundle will count as 1 when you buy 3 and get a 4th free, you'll pay the already reduced price but one of the 3 others will be free.
What’s the difference between Fairy Dust and AB (Aurora Borealis) drills?
- Fairy Dust – has a sparkle/shimmer effect built into the body of the drill; great for coverage and overall glow.
- AB (Aurora Borealis) – has a reflective, rainbow‑sheen coating on the surface; best for highlights, edges, and points of light.
Both are specialty drills and will eventually have their own hubs. Fairy Dust is launching first; ABs will follow on the same kind of system.
Can I mix Fairy Dust with other drills/brands?
Yes. Just keep:
- Squares with squares, rounds with rounds
- Check that the physical size matches your existing drills (most standard sizes play well together)
Fairy Dust plays nicely alongside regular resin drills from most brands.
Can I use Fairy Dust to replace colors on an existing kit?
Absolutely. Common uses:
- Swapping key areas (hair, skies, water, borders, lettering) to Fairy Dust
- Adding accent lines or shapes on top of a regular kit
- Bringing older canvases to life with extra shimmer
Just match the DMC numbers (or use your own judgment if you’re going artistic instead of literal).
How many colors does Fairy Dust come in?
Originally there were 35 square colors and 20 round colors available. I now have access to more than 75 colors in both round and square. Some of the original colors are not available on the new list, but there is adequate supply to remain available. As the expanded selection is being prepared, there are 80 square colors available. The largest collection of individual colors from a single retail source anywhere.

- Coming soon: Round versions , and in time an additional section for ABs, both round and square.

Where do I start if I’m overwhelmed?
- If you want Pride projects: start with the Pride & Progressive Pride bundles.
- If you want general sparkle: start with your favorite color group- my first stop would be reds or purples, add what looks exciting to your cart, you can sort from there later
- If you are bold and know the colors you are looking for, use the search capability, use the filter drop down and choose the Fairy Dust by color number and scroll through the list starting with 152 down to 5200 at th end. click on a color as you go, add to your cart, and keep scrolling til your list is done.
